Double bed – rest comfortably on a spacious double bed, complete with a mattress and mattress protector for a good night’s sleep.
Study area – study from the comfort of your own room. Your room includes a designated study desk and chair.
Shelf, pinboard and wardrobe – you will have plenty of storage space for your clothes, books, and personal items.
Heater – for a cozy and comfortable living environment year-round.
Fridge – keep food, drinks and leftovers fresh with your own bar fridge in your room. There is space above your fridge to store your essentials, and a powerpoint for a kettle. However, you cannot cook in your room.
Can I lock my room?
All apartments, including each bedroom, have secure lockable main doors and opening windows fitted with security stays.
Can I live with my partner?
We have double and single studios available, so if you would like to share a room with your partner, you can. Our double studios are a little roomier and have a queen sized bed included.
Does my room have its own bathroom?
Yes! Each studio (single and double) has its own ensuite bathroom complete with shower, toilet and vanity. It is the responsibility of the resident/s of each room to clean their own bathrooms and provide their own supplies such as toilet paper, cleaning products, etc.
What heating is available?
Each studio has a heater inside, to keep your space toasty over the Wellington winters. Common spaces are also heated.
What should I bring?
By bringing along these essential items, you’ll be well-prepared for your stay and can settle in comfortably from day one:
Bedding and towels – ensure a comfortable sleep by bringing your own bedding, including sheets, blankets, and pillows. Don’t forget to pack towels for personal use.
Clothing hangers – keep your wardrobe organised with clothing hangers for hanging clothes in your wardrobe.
Toiletries and toiletries bag – bring along your toiletries, such as toothpaste, shampoo, and soap, and store them in a toiletries bag for easy access.
Laundry basket – stay organised with a laundry basket for collecting dirty clothes and transporting them to the laundry facilities.
Laundry powder – stock up on laundry powder to keep your clothes clean and fresh throughout your stay.
Cleaning products – keep your living space tidy by bringing cleaning products such as surface cleaners and wipes.
Electric fan – while each room has opening windows, you may also wish to bring an electric fan to cool your room during the summer months.
Do I need to sign a tenancy agreement?
Yes. All residents must sign a boarding house tenancy agreement with Property Brokers Ltd. A bond will be required and is refundable when the tenancy ends if no damage or arrears are owed.
You can end your tenancy at any time by giving us notice under the Residential Tenancies Act. Rent is payable up to the end of your notice period. We'd love you to stay for the full academic year, but we understand circumstances can change. If you choose to give notice, our team will talk with you about your plans before your departure date to support you, and ensure a smooth exit.
All terms are outlined in the agreement between the resident (or parent/guarantor is under 18) and Property Brokers Ltd as the Property Managers of Taranaki 217.
Can I stay longer than the academic year?
Absolutely! If you wish to extend your stay beyond the period in your boarding house tenancy agreement, we are happy to discuss this with you further. This may apply to international students who are staying in the country once the academic year ends, or those wanting to secure a room for the entirity of their study in Wellington.
Can I apply to live here if I am not a student?
Short answer, no. Taranaki 217 is strictly independent student accommodation for students (17-21) studying in Wellington. However, you do not have to be a first year student to live here. If you prefer your own private space with shared common areas over flatting, then Taranaki 217 is also for you.
All applications will be screened with a valid offer of study for 2027 being required to secure your accommodation.
